Cotton in conversion

Cotton in conversion

GreveBloc through its T-shirts is committed to disseminating and promoting “Cotton in Conversion”,a comprehensive and sustainable program through which farmers can gradually switch from growing conventional cotton to organic cotton.

Today, only 1% of the cotton produced worldwide is organic.

In response to the strong demand and the surge in prices of this raw material, the cultivation of 'Cotton in Conversion' is an effective strategy aimed at increasing the global availability of organic cotton and thus contributing to the preservation of the planet.

3 YEARS

This is how long it takes for conventional cotton fields to be freed from traces of pesticides and regenerated.

From the first day of this transitional program, production meets
scrupulously to the standards imposed by the organic sectors.

The Greve T-shirts also have the GOTS -In-Conversion (Global Organic Cotton Standard) certification.

THE GOTS BRAND

In the textile world, GOTS certification is the most stringent and sought-after certification, as it ensures optimal quality and traceability. This certification allows organic textiles to be marketed worldwide.
The Ecocert organization that issues GOTS certification has the function of supporting, supervising and scrupulously monitoring textile operators who wish to obtain and maintain this important label.
Global specialist in the certification of sustainable practices, guarantees compliance with the following requirements:

  • Cotton grown without chemicals (pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers) or GMOs.
  • Careful and controlled management of water resources for the irrigation of fields in agricultural areas, or during periods of drought, which require artificial irrigation.
  • Ensuring compliance with working conditions based on the principles of the ILO (International Labour Organization) of the United Nations.
  • Guarantee that the finished products are, in all stages of processing, 100% free of substances that are toxic for the environment, for workers
    to production and for users.

GOTS certification is the only one that requires certified brands to provide, during control audits, laboratory test reports that demonstrate the total absence, in the DNA of the cottons used, of traces of GMOs, pesticides or other toxic chemicals. These tests are complex and expensive, but they are the only way to guarantee that the cotton is natural and harmless.

Understanding the differences between conventional cotton and organic cotton:

Use of insecticides, pesticides and GMOs. Intensive monoculture.

Careful and environmentally friendly cultivation
Zero pesticides, natural fertilizers, conservation of biodiversity and
crop rotation to avoid soil impoverishment.

Choosing our T-shirts allows us to take a step forward and adapt to changing consumer habits by opting for environmentally friendly practices.
Investment in organic farming translates into support
financial for producers (this transition period initially involves
a decrease in income), training and assistance to combine techniques
traditional and modern ecological methodologies.

Through this program, GreveBloc is committed to participating in improving the quality of life of farmers and encourages them to turn their attention towards sustainable agriculture .
This choice is fundamental to bring about real change.
